Slovaks create technology that can predict heart attacks thanks to artificial intelligence

Powerful Medical is the next #SKstartUP to be introduced to you.

Martin Herman and his brother Robert have developed a technology that can save hours of work by allowing medical professionals to interpret electrocardiograms (ECGs). The technology uses artificial intelligence to do this, which stores a database of data and suggests recommended treatments with the precision of an experienced cardiologist. Decisions on procedures are therefore much more accurate and faster.

It is a classic mobile app called PMcardio, in which a healthcare professional takes a picture of the ECG recording and the app assesses the patient’s condition and detects problems. The whole process only takes a few seconds, and the artificial intelligence can also suggest a treatment plan after adding other specific information such as age. They are working on algorithms that will be able to predict the risk of a heart attack prematurely, which is an effective way of detecting this common disease.

Evidence of the interest in using AI in medicine is the several thousand active users and thousands of registered medical professionals and nurses in the UK waiting to use it. Powerful Medical has raised a total of €7.4 million in investment from investors such as bpd partners, Venture To Future Fund or the Crowdberry platform.

The Slovak startup so far has offices in Bratislava, London and Aalst, Belgium. They have already achieved European license and they are also awaiting FDA certification in the US, where they eventually want to expand.
